Want to challenge yourself and improve your driving skills?
The Time Challenge is a new type of event designed to challenge even the best of drivers and level the playing field at the same time. Bo9/96s beaten by Rabbits, 908s loosing to Civics.
Here's how it works: Before the race you'll run 5 laps. Your best lap will be written down and recorded as your "Dial-In Lap Time".
* A random amount of time (ranging from 1 to 10 seconds) will be added to everyone's Dial-In lap time to ensure everyone will need to lay down their best times in the race and to help curb sand bagging your qualifying.
Your Dial-In lap time will then be multiplied by the number of laps in the race. A one minute dial-in lap time in a race of 5 laps will equal 5 mins, 4 laps, 4 mins. A 1:30:000 lap will equal 7:30:00 in a 5 lap race, 4 laps, it will equal 6 mins. Whatever time it may be, this time is the time you'll finish the race with if you run every single lap as fast as your Dial-In Lap Time. this total time will be recorded as your Total Dial-In Lap Time.
So now its time to do the race. The race is rolling a rolling start. Obviously the pace lap will start the total time before the race starts. Using the replay, the time that the first car has has when crossing the start line for the race will be subtracted from everyone's time. The starts will be single file with the fast cars in first and the slowest car in last. Green Flag!
Now the race has started. The goal of the race is not finish in first place. Your goal is too race the best laps you possibly can. A reminder this is one of the most unforgiving races you'll race. Due to the nature of the race I will not issue Caution Laps/ If you wreck, move completely off the track and limp back to the pits. Since we will be racing a variety of cars, passing has the chance of being completely wild. Pay attention: If you are the slowest car you need to hug the inside line of the turn your in, o hold your line if in a straight. If the faster car has not passed you by the end of the turn DO NOT go to the inside line of the next turn. Stay on the side of the track your on until they pass. If its the inside of turn stay on the inside. If it happens to be outside of the next turn, stay to the outside. If there's 3 cars involved, each in different classes the average paced car will try and get close to the slow car and try to go around the slow car. The fastest car in the mix will move to the outside of the first turn the pass started at and then hold that side of the track until they pass. If at any point in time the cars goes three wide into a turn, please allow the faster car to turn in first. It should be perfectly fine if everyone holds their line and checks their mirrors.
So hopefully it was a clean race. After the race is over we take your total race time. This is refered as your Actual Dial In. So to see how well we did we take your Actual Total Time and subtract the Total Dial In time. So if your Dial In Time is 24:00:000 and your Actual Time is 23:25:000, you’d do:
23:25:000
24:00:000
------------
-25 seconds
So the final time would be negative 25 seconds. That means that overall you improved by 25 seconds. If your Actual time was 24:30:000 then your Final time was 00:30:000.
Remember this is like golf, so the lowest time wins.
So if the lowest time wins why can’t I just run horrible qualifying laps and then do great in the race? Well, if you run too far into the negative you’ll be disqualified for “breaking out”, just like Dial-In drag racing. Except in the case here We are allowing to run slightly into the negative to encourage improvement. Remember the point of the race is to try improve on your time.
*For every tenth of a mile (.16 kilometers) you will be allowed one second into the negative. A 4 mile track will mean you can go 40 seconds into the negative for the overall time. The break out is capped at -1:00:000
As far as tuning goes, I’m leaving it up to honor system for you to run your fastest tune. If anyone believes someone is running tunes that are slower than necessary and extra-stabile, let me know and Ill handle it.
There are no penalties as far as bumping. However, if more than 2 wheels leave the racing surface you’ll be penalized the amount of seconds you left the track. The exception is crashing.
If you deliberately cut a turn, you will be penalized the time you were off the track plus 2 seconds
Aggressively blocking ANYONE will result in a 10 second penalty
Blocking someone in a faster class is an automatic 10 second penalty
