German Open
Saturday, Jan 19th

Welcome to the German Open. This one off race will be held at the famed Nurburg GP circuit. Race length will be 50 laps.

The race is open to German manufactured cars only, (Ruf's are eligible). This will be an R3 class race.

Tuning rules/requirements: We will be using drag tires for this event. Tuning is open. Tune your car choice to R3 800, THEN put the drag tires on. Your final PI should be around R3 770+

Race Format: There will be a 3 lap qualifying session prior to the race beginning at 8:30 pm est, GMT-5. Please be online prior to this time to insure a timely start. For some added fun, the field will then be reversed for the start of the race. The race will start from a standing grid. Pit stops will be necessary with the drag tires. How many will be determined by each driver according to their own tire wear and handling.

All FLR race rules and standards apply. Door to door action is to be expected and encouraged, but sportsmanlike conduct is to be maintained at all times.

One restart will be allowed for a snafu during lap one. A restart will also be called if there is a lag out within the first 5 laps.

Cautions will be at the discretion of the race host. If a caution is called, please immediately slow down and follow the host's instructions.

Race Payouts: (courtesy of Behind The Wall) cheers

1st place - 1,000,000 credits
2nd place - 750,000 credits
3rd place - 500,000 credits

Also, would you guys mind if I post this over at EZT? We can restrict it to FLR if you prefer.

If there are more guys that are interested, I don't see why not. If it perks them up they can consider joining FLR too if they wanted.

The more the merrier. I have felt we should "relax" the rule for none members joining as long as we know the group coming in.

Question- If you build street car with stock tires drag tires increases PI. So to clarify should we have race tires mandated for initial set up before switching to drag tires?

Yes. It actually didn't occur to me that someone would build an R3 race car with stock tires, but I guess to each his own. Your R3 800 build should be using the race tires, then once you are satisfied with your build, install the drag tires. You may need to adjust the tune slightly to compensate for the different grip characteristics.

isn't there some way to just require a certain number of pit stops rather than run drag tires? i'm finding the drag tires to really, really suck.

Yeah, I could have specified a certain number of stops, but it wouldn't be the same as far as strategy goes. I realize the drag tires are not optimum in that they have a bit less grip, but they do better simulate wear, such that it is. More thought must now be given to how you run your race, how long you can push the limits, when you will need to pit, etc.

Experience has shown that mandatory pits rarely, if ever, really effect the outcome of any given race. In contrast, the last Nascar series at VM required drag tires, and several races were indeed decided by the tires.

Since the game once again has failed to accurately model fuel usage and tire wear, this is our best option to bring a bit more realism into our races.

As a footnote: while your overall lap times will be slower, with only a few minor adjustments your car will still handle just as well as with the race slicks.
